Pumpkin Spice Foods, Day 8: Hostess Pumpkin Spice Cupcakes

Hostess Pumpkin Spice CupCakes, come in packages of 8 individually wrapped cupcakes.  These were bought at Target. The cupcakes themselves were fine – nothing to write home about though.  The frosting was a little hard on the one I tried.  The cake part was pretty good, but the saving grace for me was the cream filling.  It is probably the same filling they put in other cupcakes, but it was tasty and sweet.

I notice on the outside packaging, there is a picture of a pumpkin pie, but they are called pumpkin spice cupcakes.  I guess it doesn’t really matter, but in my mind, pumpkin pie and pumpkin spice are two different things.  So…should you try them?  Sure.  Will you buy another pack after trying one?  Probably not.  If you like Hostess Cupcakes, they are a nice treat to have once a year in the fall.

Pumpkin Spice Foods, Day 7: Pumpkin Fiber One 90 Calorie Soft-Baked Bars

As far as Pumpkin (spice, pie, plain pumpkin) flavored foods go, the Pumpkin Fiber One 90 Calories Soft-Baked Bar is not my favorite.  It does have some good qualities such as it’s only 90 calories and has 5 grams of fiber.  I generally really like Fiber One Bars as a snack from time to time.  This particular flavor just seemed too tart or harsh…..or something.  I really thought this would be a no-brainer and that it would be something I would want to carry around with me as a snack this fall.  The pumpkin flavor just doesn’t seem to translate well into a Fiber One Bar, which is unfortunate.

Pumpkin Spice Foods, Day 6: Pumpkin Spice Peeps

Pumpkin Spice Peeps.  I tried these little guys and well, they were not what I was expecting.  I didn’t read the fine print at the bottom that says “Flavored Marshmallow Dipped in White Fudge.”  Do they do this with regular peeps that arrive around Easter time?  After I took a look at the Peeps website, I discovered that some Peeps are, indeed, dipped although I don’t think I’ve ever had a Peep dipped in anything.  Also, special Peeps are released for several different holidays.

It wasn’t what I expected, but, I liked them.  I thought they tasted a lot like one would imagine pumpkin spice to taste.  My husband thought they tasted more like a chai sort of treat.  Either way, they were good and the white fudge was a nice touch.  Three of my friends sent info about these over to me starting in mid-August (Thank you Tamara, TR and Heather!) and I have been curious about them.  They were released August 31 exclusively at Target and sold in packs of three, as shown.  I’m not sure how I feel about Easter candy in the fall, but, bottom line, Pumpkin Spice Peeps are sweet, sugary and delicious.

Pumpkin Spice Foods, Day 4: Russell Stover Big Bite Pumpkin Pie

The Russell Stover Big Bite Pumpkin Pie is a fun treat.  This was sent to me by a friend on Facebook and was found locally at Ray’s Apple Market.  It is sort of like a bit of pumpkin pie covered in chocolate.  Pumpkin pie = good; chocolate = very good; Russell Stove Big Bite Pumpkin Pie = great!  It’s the type of treat you have once a year, though, because it is pretty rich.  Enjoy!

Pumpkin Spice Foods, Day 3: Pumpkin Spice Blended Chobani Greek Yogurt

The Pumpkin Spice Blended Chobani Greek Yogurt was something I was really looking forward to trying. My son pointed this out at our local grocery story, Ray’s Apple Market, though I’m sure you can find it in most grocery stores right now.  In my opinion, if you like Greek yogurt you will probably enjoy this.  I like Greek yogurt in general, but I usually use it in smoothies and as a substitute in recipes that call for mayonnaise.  (It’s also good as a substitute for sour cream on top of baked potatoes but I’m getting off track.)  Anyhow, I don’t eat a lot of Greek yogurt on its own, so I thought the tartness was a little much, but you could taste the pumpkin spice and that part of it was great. I looked at the ingredient list and there actually is pumpkin puree in this yogurt (and it’s got 12 grams of protein!).  I think this would be a fun treat to add in a smoothie.  I might have to do some experimenting with this….or I’m sure Pinterest will have some ideas too.

Pumpkin Spice Foods, Day 2: Pumpkin Spice Latte M&M’s

Pumpkin Spice Latte M&M’s have made their way to Target (that’s where my kids and husband found them).  They bought a pack and we all tried them.  The kids thought they were “just okay.”  I think I know why they weren’t instantly in love with them: these M&M’s taste like a latte, and obviously my kids don’t drink coffee.  I think they’re great although they were a bit strong for me, (or maybe not sweet enough?) but they live up to what they are supposed to be: M&M’s that taste like a PSL.

Pumpkin Spice Foods – Day 1: Starbuck’s Pumpkin Spice Latte

I decided to begin with what probably originally started the pumpkin spice food trend: Starbuck’s Pumpkin Spice Latte.  I have always been a fan, but this year Starbuck’s decided to do something different: add real pumpkin to the mix.  I have tried the new and improved Pumpkin Spice Latte (you could get it early, see HERE and the password is pumpkin).  It officially launches tomorrow.

I really like the new PSL, even better than the original to be honest.  Somehow it is more smooth than the original.

Day 1 2015I also thought I better include this relevant meme I found.  Happy Labor Day!  Fall is here!  (Sort of.)
